So tell us, what are the hottest styles in store this season?

“We can’t keep this style on the shelves. Customers literally walk in asking for it. The snakeskin print is a real hit. It makes it neutral, easy to wear and really versatile.”	"Sandals are always a style staple in Miami. Greta Constantine’s strong shapes, architectural lines and fluid jersey gowns called for our glossy peep-toe booties, Fimasa in black, our suede ankle boots, Froling in grey, our cutout peep to heels, Luedi in bronze, and our metallic ankle strap sandals, Tarabulus in gold and silver.

To mark the close of L’Oreal Toronto Fashion Week S/S 09, designers Kirk Pickersgill and Stephan Wong, in association with LG, will unveil the new Greta Constantine collection labeled Atelier. The closing gala titled LG Fashion Fusion 2008 will celebrate music, fashion and everything that makes life good with performances by Maroon 5 and the unveiling of three new LG cell phones (which we all can’t wait to get our hands on!).

Trend Preview - Montreal Fashion Week - S/S 09

MTFW took place at Marche Beausecours, in the heart of the Old Montreal.

First on our list was Andy Thë-Ahn, the man behind the glamorous, ultra feminine designs that have invaded our closets over the years.

The show debuted with a selection of personal readings by Andy’s muses who also happened to be breast cancer survivors. The audience was moved and took to their feet, as each woman took to the catwalk. All proceeds from the show went towards Quebec’s Breast Cancer Foundation.

The collection featured simple, yet elegant pieces. Most notable were a series of ruffle blouses (at which the crowds wooed!) and a fantastic strapless dressed with an exaggerated flower appliqué. Taupe, beige, off white and light grey were all key colors that premiered throughout the collection.

To close, the talented violinist Dr. Draw took to the stage playing a series of songs, including Prince’s “Another One Bites the Dust” and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit”. All in all, it was a stellar show.

April March’s 1960s hit “Chick Habit” set the tone for Soïa & Kyo’s S/S 09 ready-to-wear collection. As the lights dimmed and the crowd hushed, a number of short double-breasted jackets and wide belted trend coats (all in striking tiger lily red!) took to the catwalk, introducing a spring collection that was retro-inspired, but also made for the everyday.

It was all a throw back to the 60s, (as if the bobs and bangs weren’t evidence enough), only without the flower power.

But fear not, Soïa & Kyo hasn’t gone completely vintage on us. As soon as Duffy’s soulful hit “Mercy” intercepted, a fresh collection of striking color combinations and 60s silhouettes (all worth noting!) brought the collection into the modern day. Most prominent was a houndstooth double-breasted coat, softened by a shade grey, and a white belted trench coat with black trimmings and that flared out into a flattering circle hem. Red, dark plum, fuchsia and taupe were all notable colors in the collection.

For spring 09, Soïa & Kyo concentrated on higher hemlines and exaggerated fold down collars, all while keeping with their signature large decorative buttons.

Now, if only we could get our hands on these stylish retro inspired coats before spring 09, that would be ideal… I mean, seriously, we’re all dressed up, and no retro-trench to go!

Originally conceived for nightlife aficionados, Travis Taddeo’s collection was sexy, raw and firmly planted in streetwear. Travis’ designs are known for making a strong statement, and S/S 09 was no exception.

His electrifying palette of colors (striking pink, deep cobalt and bright yellow mixed with shimmering metallics) and choice of fabrics (cotton and synthetic fabrics, such as PVC) created a hi-tech, futuristic trend that’s bound to turn heads.

There were flashes of skin and with every approaching model - the mini seemed to reach new heights. It was the cupcake dress in metallic pink for women and the one-piece vinyl jumper in black for men that were the favorites among the crowd.

When asked about his collection, Taddeo wrote, "My collection is designed for strong individuals seeking clothing that will be complimentary to their personality.” And we couldn’t agree more, when sporting a Travis Taddeo piece; you’re sure to get noticed (in a good, risky kind of way).

Question: I love oxfords but i don't like wearing tights or skinny jeans what else can i pair them up with? Answer:

Hey Sara,

Oxfords are by far the hot new style in shoes this season. The mix of old and new has just about everyone excited. And while tights and skinny jeans are the ideal choice, there are plenty of other pieces in your wardrobe that work just as well.

The thing to remember is that the whole allure of an oxford is in its details. Seriously, the lace-ups, perforated details and often times the color blocking make the shoe, so it’s a shame not to show it off.

But, no worries, there are other options. I would try pairing them with a great knee-length skirt or pair of fall capris – tweed or a heavy weight fabric that’s not too summery. This is the summer-fall transitional look everyone’s been coveting. And of course, for comfort sake, a sockette not only required, but necessary.

Trend Preview - DAY 6 – CHRISTIAN SIRIANO (Bryant Park)

Thursday Sept 11th

NY Fashion Week is winding down, and in all honesty, I’m feeling quite sad about it.

But there’s nothing like the Christian Siriano show to end off a fabulous week, I’ve been anticipating it all week! Christian is not only a very talented designer; he is now also considered somewhat of a celebrity after having won the reality TV show Project Runway. I don’t know about you, but out of all the contestants, he was my personal favourite.

Christian’s Spring 09 collection showcased three distinct colors – grey, yellow and black, and every single piece that he came out with was innovative, trendy and absolutely gorgeous! The amount of detail that went into his designs was really out of this world – cone-shaped dresses, huge lavish hats…. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it all.

I predict we’ll be seeing a lot of Christian Siriano in the seasons to come. His inaugural show was the perfect end to my week of fashion in NYC! Until next time…

I feel as though since I’ve been here, I’ve experienced every possible season – expect for winter, thank goodness. Fortunately, I’m an extreme packer, so with my entire wardrobe at my fingertips, the ever-changing weather didn’t slow me down!

Today, I had a jam-packed day. I had lunch with ELLE magazine’s Fashion Director, and then I ran (literally – since I couldn’t find a cab) to the Pamella Roland show - no M&Ms this time, this was serious fashion.

Pamella Roland is a renowned designer well known for her sophisticated and glamorous red carpet dresses. Celebrities like Eva Langoria, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston have all worn her designs.

Although Roland’s red carpet dresses may have put her on the map, her constantly evolving and undeniably elegant sense of style have everyone coming back for more. She is the epiphany of timeless modernity.

I have NEVER seen so many photographers gathered in one room before.
From Roland’s casual (and very wearable!) basics to her famous gowns, her collection was simply exquisite. Her designs were composed of luxurious fabrics in beautiful colors. A common feature that resonated throughout was the high collar – so get ready girls!

At the end of the show, Pamella received a standing ovation. She took the stage in a black two-piece ensemble accompanied by her three adorable children… Ahh! What a lady!

Trend Preview - DAY 4 – ALICE + OLIVIA (Bryant Park)

Tuesday Sept 9th

Today’s discovery – rain in NYC equals MAJOR TRAFFIC.
My fashionista motto - Come rain or shine, one must ALWAYS dress to impress.

Not allowing the rain to dampen my spirits, I hopped out of my cab, popped open my uber cute umbrella, and joined the rest of Fashion Week’s attendees in Bryant Park for one of the most highly anticipated shows - the Alice + Olivia show, which was about to begin at their NY boutique.

In preparation for the show, Alice + Olivia chief designer Stacey Bendet turned her NY boutique into a fashion exhibition filled to the brim with gorgeous models. The store design, on which her crew worked around the clock to transform into a beautiful, enchanting fairytale, was unreal. Bendet’s colorful scarves were hanging from the chandelier and the entire store was filled with bursts of color.

Bendet’s line has a well-deserved place in every celebrity’s closet. At the show, I even spotted blond beauty, Malin Akerman from The Heartbreak Kid in the crowd.

The Alice + Olivia Spring 2009 collection was fun, outgoing and exciting. Stacey Bendet showcased four distinct trends; the first a retro-chic look, which included short shorts, metallic wraps, wide belts and chunky patent ankle boots. The second look was totally vintage-inspired; it featured a variety of multi-pattern dresses and an eye-catching collection of oversized straw hats. The last two looks were marvelously elegant. For day, Bendet showcased a fuchsia bubble-hem cocktail dress, which I totally fell for, and for evening, her collection of satin and chiffon maxi dresses blew everyone away.

Lucky for me, the luscious Alice + Olivia line will be available in stores and online come Spring 2009! Now, I’m just hoping for a short winter…

Trend Preview - DAY 3 – JILL STUART (NY Public Library)

Monday Sept 8th

I love NYC, especially for its sense of style. Every time I come here, I get inspired. Today’s beautiful weather called for a light flowy dress and strappy ankle boots (not my everyday fashion attire in Montreal, especially in September, but the perfect ensemble for a girl attending Fashion Week in NYC!).

I arrived at the New York Public Library for the Jill Stuart show. Inside, I spotted tons of people sporting oversized accessories. From sunglasses to hats to headbands, big is definitely in! No girl seemed to be complete without a couple of key accessories and a pair of ankle boots.

Being the HUGE Sex & the City fan that I am, I was instantly hit with flashbacks of Carrie and Mr. Big when I entered the library. The catwalk was set up in the middle of the beautifully lit room and it looked stunning. When the show began, I was blown away; Jill’s collection was out of this world! The color palette she used was a refreshing mix of white, dusty pink, blue and grey. The accessories were incredible – long beaded necklaces, lovely handbands and oversized clutches.

It was definitely an interesting experience, from the runway to the people that attended the show!

You know what they say, onward and upwards; next on my list was Abi Ferrin, the young Texas-based designer. I headed in with the rest of the crowd and took my front row seat, right… near the runway!

I waited in anticipation as the lights dimmed and the music began... Abi Ferrin knows what women want! With the exception of a few extravagant pieces, the collection offered wearable fashion. The idea behind the line was what really grabbed my attention. Ferrin’s designs represent freedom and as a designer, she strives to empower women through fashion. Her motto is, “Abi Ferrin for Freedom.” I’m sure the protesters at the previous show would have been kinder to her. The collection included hand painted prints, jeweled accents and lots of buttons; the accessory of choice was the clutch. What really blew everyone away was that the entire collection was environmentally friendly – fibers, threads, materials and all! ‘cause you know, I’m all about eco-chic.

There was a ton of press on site. In between interviews and photos, I arranged a visit backstage for a meet n’ greet with Abi Ferrin, who was an absolute sweetheart! There’s no doubt about it, a girl could get use to this kind of lifestyle!

I love shopping at ALDO for the shoes and accessories. I do not frequent downtown San Francisco too often and I specific went downtown about two weeks ago in search of purple shoes with the right heel. I searched a few stores and was not finding what I wanted and I remembered ALDO well low and behold I found the shoes and went to the accessory department and found matching accessories. I will keep ALDO as my first choice in the futue I am pleased. Purple is my favorite and my birth stone color as well. Thank you Wanda

It was a gorgeous day in NYC. The streets were packed with people kicking back, and the weather was just right. I was buzzing with excitement. Dressed in one of my trendiest outfits and a pair of killer peep toe pumps, I flagged down a cab and headed towards Bryant Park (aka Fashion Central) for a little chocolate and a LOT of fashion.

What’s on my agenda? The M&M and Pamella Roland event, a promotional stunt for a new chocolate line featuring designs by Mrs. Roland herself - yes, it’s true, even chocolate has gone designer! What’s more, the event was hosted by the lovely Eva Langoria, and the ever-so-handsome Nigel Barker was also on hand to show his support.

Let’s just say, when there’s a new line of chocolate, a red carpet designer and any mention of celebrity involvement, I’m there!

Here’s a quick rundown of the event. Five incredible designs by Pamella Roland, five highly addictive new M&M flavors and a lot of stunning celebs – what more could a girl ask for?

After the show, I scoped out a couple of major sponsors – MAC, T-Mobile, Mercedes and Havaianas to see what was new, until I was startled by a group of protesters, chanting “Curves on the Runway.” Don’t get me wrong, curvaceous women should be accepted on the runway, but what a way to choose the event – chocolate and fashion, really?!

i think it's really nice that aldo pairs up with youth aids every year....the bracelets are a great idea! they're super cute you can wear them with so much just like any other piece of jewelry but at least with these all the proceeds are going to help fight aids! so go buy some bracelets for yourself, friends, and family! and don't forget a new pair of shoes or purse too haha :)

The first day on my New York Fashion Week journey.

As I grabbed a cab and headed towards the hotel - I could already feel the excitement in the city. The fashion expedition started to unfold as soon as I boarded the plane in Montreal. I noticed people who looked like they were heading to NY FW. You know, they had that look, the “I’m too cool for words” look.... I love that look!!!!! When I checked into my hotel, the clock read 8h30. Filled with energy, I was eager to begin my adventure!

Trend Preview - Day 1 - Unconventional Unconditional Show (The Maritime Hotel, NY)

Saturday Sept 6 - 10H00am.

AH! I’m finally checked-in and ready to hit the streets. What’s first on my agenda? UNCONDITIONAL, a London-based label known for their modern take on men’s and women’s wear. This was UNCONDITIONAL’s first showing at NY FW!

Upon arrival, at the über trendy and modern Maritime Hotel, we headed up to the penthouse where we anxiously took our seats and waited for the show to begin. It was a very unique venue and UNCONDITIONAL had a very unconventional way of showcasing the collection.

The models just hung out… literally, standing around the room, lying on the beds and lounging on the couches – all the while showing off the S/S 09 collection AND wearing gorgeous shoes.

UNCONDITIONAL showed a very different look from last fall’s punk-inspired collection. The women’s collection was very elegant, flowy and soft, while the men’s collection was light, full of linen, and quite preppy. There was lots of fuchsia, grey and white... and LOTS MORE white. With soft music playing in the background, the atmosphere was very Zen-like.

It was such a cool interactive fashion event; a real live fashion installation with guests mingling and snapping photos. Needless to say, we took it all in stride and loved it!
I personally adored the collection; I want to own every piece!
