Those outdated rules about not wearing white after Labour Day and never mixing blue or brown with black… please. In fashion, the only rule is: wearing what works for you. But if you’re looking for a cheat sheet to give you extra inspo, look no further. These aren’t necessarily rules to live by, but they’re pretty golden.

Golden Rule: Mix different shades of blue in one outfit for the win

Everyone occasionally gets the blues. When we do, we like to wallow in it. The pairing of different spectrums of blue is by far our favourite in moody cool. Let’s be real: blue reminds us of some of our favourite things. Blue Ivy. The Blueprint. Blue Jasmine. Blue Crush. (Hannah Horvath on Girls agrees: “Blue Crush was such an important movie for women.”)

Besides, no blue is created equal. We’ve already heard about the difference between cobalt, turquoise and cerulean. Whether your look is all about one tone of blue (go monochromatic), features an ombre effect (go from pale to dark), or mixes and matches all different shades of true blue, the sky’s the limit when it comes to this multi-tasking shade. Plus, our navy ombre lug sole lace-ups do any blues justice.
