RINGS AND THINGS: Holding Onto Summer
From backyard BBQs to hitting the fun music festival circuit, we’re not quite ready for the changing of your season. Cooler temps mean staying in instead of staying out; layering on wool instead of laying in waves; covering up instead of taking off. Byebye summer selfies. (sigh)
We know we can’t change the course that fall/winter is on, but we have found a clever way to capture the essence of those lovely and warm days before the dark and cold comes to the fore. Put your style sights to task and reinvent the way you dress with how you accessorize.
Admittedly we went a bit bananas for festival-inspired jewelery this summer. Our wardrobes are maxed out with tribal-inspired beaded bracelets, multi-coloured tassel necklaces and big ‘n’ bold mood rings in a rainbow of shades. We’re not about to say sayonara to these pieces for a full year, so here’s what we’re going to do: We’re going to roll up our woolen and somewhat staid sweaters to that perfect spot on the elbow where we can layer all of our beads, bracelets and bangles for an unexpected ornamentation that’s high on colour and intent on collecting compliments. Whether you have one (or five) maxi-dresses, no need to push to the back of your closet. Pair these flowy and oh-so-comfortable frocks with an equally cool and comforting cardigan sweater. For added fashion value? Wrap your waist in a skinny snakeskin belt and throw on a bejeweled bib necklace and a pair of ankle-grazing booties.
Fashion may be cyclical, but for us it’s an all-year round commitment.
