RINGS AND THINGS: TOTES FOR PRINTS
Although Aztec prints are right up there with soft pastels and bold, bright florals when it comes to perennial summer trends, they’re not just for beach-bound bohemians and picnic blankets anymore. While wearing tribal graphics to the outdoor music concert is almost expected (we’re looking at you, Kendall Jenner), 2015 trendsetters are rocking Aztec everywhere from the office and after-work drinks to the mid-summer wedding and exclusive cocktail party.
It helps that both high-end designers and high-street brands took inspiration from the vibrant hues, geometrics designs, and nature motifs of traditional indigenous textiles for spring/summer 2015 looks for more than just ponchos this year. Taking the trend by the horns, designer Mara Hoffman’s S/S ’15 collection incorporated two-dimensional southwestern scenes and artisanal detailing in everything from crocheted jumpsuits to beaded trapeze dresses. Etro’s S/S ’15 took head-to-toe to new levels with flowing dresses featuring intricate embroidery topped off with dream-catcher-inspired accessories.
To rock the trend, invest in one or two killer statement pieces, like wide leg pants or a maxi dress, and up your style game by decking out your look with a few key accessories. After all, textures are a huge factor in nailing the look, so don’t be afraid to mix materials like you would patterns. Stack wrists with beaded bracelets, and gold rings, collectively they’re reminiscent of the blonde and gold sands of the desert. Finalize your look with a day-to-night handbag featuring an Aztec-inspired print and leather detailing.
